Simon, Brian and Kurt arrive back from their holiday in Tenerife a day late and miss the Inset Day and the arrival of newly qualified English teacher, Penny, and languages teacher, J.P, who Simon mistakes for a sixth former!
Before they go back, Simon moans about how everything will be the same, but there's the new teachers, he has a new classroom and a new tutor group who are very quiet and boring and he then moans about how everything's changed.
Susan's divorce comes through and she fancies J.P. She flirts with him but he doesn't seem to notice so she dresses up like a girl in a skirt and more make up and eventually asks him out but he tells her he is gay.
Brian doesn't get on with one of the girls in his tutor and geography group, Kayla. She is very cheeky and takes the piss out of him a lot. He sees her coming out of the office and he thinks he's gone to Clare about him and moans to Liz about the 'little bitch' and Liz tells him Kayla is her daughter!
Carol comes in dressed up and her hair and make up done for Kurt but Kurt's been ignoring her all summer and doesn't want to go out with her anymore but can't tell her. He asks everyone else to do it for him but they refuse. Eventually Liz does it for him after he bribes her with a bag full of chocolate! Carol takes it badly and cries hysterically.
